About the course

Participating in a school music program creates memories for students that will teach them lifelong skills. That is why the National Federation of State High School Associations has developed the course The New Music Parent. This course is designed to provide an overview of the best practices that parents can learn to help their respective students learn the fundamentals when they begin playing an instrument.

You will also learn about the benefits of participating in music, some of the reasons why students quit and how to combat that from happening, how to select the right instrument, whether to buy or rent an instrument, the importance of properly putting together and performing maintenance on an instrument, the practicing process, and how to stay engaged during the summer months.

So, take the course, The New Music Parent, available for free on the NFHS Learning Center.
